It sounds a bit cliched and twee to say you can taste the mountains on this ale. But you can, a mouthful of this is like a deep breath in a heather filled glen. This beer is infused with heather flowers when still hot (fraoch is Gaelic for heather) and these give the nose a wonderful floral, almost honeyed note with a little bit of gingery spice. It is well bodied with a light hoppy flavour with floral and peaty notes before finishing with a spicy maltiness and underlying sweetness. Maybe a little too sweet to drink more than a couple but a lovely refreshing beer and definitely a taste of Scotland.Brewed in Alloa, 5% abv
The first time I had Fraoch was in the Clachaig Inn, Glencoe with the Strathaven Climbing Club. Fantastic ale. MrG
